Is it ok for someone previously in charge of looking after peoples health to go and work for a tobacco co?
Say for example someone who was previously responsible for the nations health and discouraged smoking then goes and works for a tobacco company promoting smoking. Is it ok for the person to do this as it’s their decision or should they not take the position due to their history in the public limelight?
If anyone has any knowledge of ethical theories that would be great!
I don’t have any knowledge of ethical theories. Nor do I know if you are talking about anybody in particular. However, I assume this person still needs to work to earn a living. If so, it can be difficult to take an ethical or moral view if you can no longer work with your current employer but still need to work to maintain your lifestyle. Given this line of thinking and consumers having the chance to decide whether they wish to smoke, I do not see an ethical dilemma.
