How long of a break should I take from cardio workouts when I have a bad cough?

Ok, so I’m trying to lose weight: I’ve been trying to do cardio workouts three to four times a week in addition eating a healthier, low calorie diet.
But now I have this awful chest cold: I’ve got a really painful cough that is agrivated by pretty much any activity, so exercising is out of the question at the time. I’m wondering how long of a break I should take from working out. Until the cough stops completely? Or just until it starts to get better?
The only reason I’m asking is I read in a health/fitness magazine that if you have a cough you should take a break from working out to avoid serious lung troubles. But the article didn’t specify how long of a break you should take.
Any advice as to when I can start working out again would be appreciated!

I would wait until it completely heals up. It shouldn’t take too long.

But if you want to lose weight here is what I suggest: Dont only do cardio. Strength train too. You dont want to just lose all your fat and just be a pile of twigs. You can’t be in true shape unless you strength train.

Good luck!
