Can I get by with catastrophe insurance only?
I am thinking of quitting my full time job (that provides health insurance) and going freelance. Can I obtain something called catastrophe insurance only? My understanding of this insurance is that it is like health insurance but it has a huge deductible (many thousands of dollars). It would only be in case I had a big accident or terrible disease. I also heard this type of insurance is about $200 a month (a lot cheaper than health insurance). I live and work in New York City. Is my understanding of what catastrophe insurance is correct?
Thanks.
Most catastrophic policies require you to have regular health insurance also. Mine costs 400 for the year. but that is in addition to my regular health insurance policy. That has a 2k deductible.
Get a regular policy but make it a high deductible and have it cover major medical. Talk to an agent and tailor the plan to fit your lifestyle
