Thinking about double majoring for law school?

Im a Political Science major, looking to possible add a 2nd major. Either “Economics”, “Philosophy” or “Global and International Relations”. But, I already have one minor, in “Public Policy and Public Administration”.

Should I just take electives in all these areas? Or should I pick one and double major. I mean, I want to look as well rounded as possible.

I know having a BA in “Economics”, will help my career in Politics, and “Philosophy” will help me in my career as a lawyer.

What should I do? I really would like to take some Econ classes!! It is crucial to a strong effective government. And besides majority of the politicians dont know Economics!

I would like to be a health lawyer, or policy analyst. I hope to get my Juris Doctor along with an MPH, MPP or MPA. Then later run for mayor of a town, or something more.

My advice: minor in philosophy and take both a beginning and an advanced symbolic logic course. It will help you immensely on the LSAT.

As someone with a double-major and two minors in the liberal arts, I can tell you from first hand experience that it doesn’t help you out as much as you’d think. Unless you’re on a full-ride scholarship you’ll be going into more debt for that second degree. Even with a lawyer’s salary, you don’t want to have to deal with that down the line.

Keep your grades up, ace the LSAT and get some unique volunteering experience. You’ll have no problem getting into law school with all of that plus a degree with two minors.
