Vocabulary help for “mountain out of molehill ” situation?

Is there a term or phrase to describe the situation when you’ve done something quite minor – and it’s described as really major, and extrapolate it to extreme consequences. ( for example ,sa y you sneezed suddenly, and then are accused of breaching health and safety regs; and have put the nation’s health in jeopardy.
What’s this called – thanks.

How about exaggerate, hyperbolize, inflate, magnify, overcharge, and overstate for individual words?

Or if you want a phrase, how about ‘over-egging the cake’ for anotehr phrase?

I am sure there must be other alternatives, but those are what speing to mind
